Light It Up Blue for World Autism Awareness Day on April 2nd!

World Autism Awareness Day is just one month away!

The goal of this special day is to educate the public about autism and to promote early detection and early intervention. In 2007, the United Nations adopted a resolution to observe World Autism Awareness Day each year on April 2nd. Autism is one of the few health issues that has its own designated day of observance by the United Nations.

Autism Speaks celebrates this special day each year by promoting their “Light It Up Blue” campaign.  Iconic landmarks all over the world are lit up blue to show support for individuals and families affected by autism. Persons are encouraged to wear blue and to help spread autism awareness throughout their community and on social media.

I believe that creating autism awareness and acceptance is very important. Therefore, I am joining with Autism Speaks and the United Nations to help promote this special day in honor of my son.  I would love to have your support! Here’s how you can help:

  • Please wear blue on Thursday, April 2nd.  You can even get your entire family involved!
  • After you and your family get dressed in blue, post a pic on Facebook.  You can also post on other social media networks if you would like.
  • When posting your pic, be sure to include the hashtags: #autismawareness #ForDaniel #LIUB.  And just in case you are wondering, the #LIUB stands for Light It Up Blue.

The goal of this campaign is to create awareness and to get people talking about autism.  Feel free to share this post on your social media networks.  Encourage your friends to participate!

Thanks in advance for your support. 🙂

Thank you Tonya! I plan to do this! My almost-four-year-old nephew was diagnosed last month with autism. I’m so thankful for blogs like yours that offer hope and encouragement. You are an inspiration, and I pray God blesses you and your family richly.
