Dear Hubby and I decided to throw Big Brother a party for his birthday this year.  He recently discovered how fun parties could be (click here for the scoop on that), so we decided to make sure his birthday was extra special this year.

We asked him if he wanted a Thomas the Train Party, a Disney Cars party, or a Disney Planes Party. However, that didn’t go so well. Big Brother kept changing his mind. So I did what any other mom would do…I got on Pinterest to see which theme had the best ideas! 🙂

Since Big Brother loves airplanes, we made a command decision to do a Disney Planes Party.  We ordered party supplies from Party City and Oriental Trading. Dear Hubby made a runway tablecloth and a “Pin the Propeller on Dusty” game. We found a business that rented out Bouncy Houses and scheduled it for the big day.

Our plan for food?  Well, Dear Hubby was voluntold to cook hot dogs and hamburgers on the grill. I would make a few side items to go along with everything.  I ordered a cake with a picture of Dusty the Plane on it.

Dear Hubby and I almost over slept on the day of the party because we had sat up until 2:00am decorating.  Thankfully, everything came together right on time.  Here’s a pic of some of the decorations.  I wish I had better pictures because there were more decorations than this, but oh well.  I was too busy cooking and playing hostess to stage the perfect photo.

We had several children at the party with autism, so we had to take extra precautions to make sure that we kept up with all of the children. We had part of the party indoors and the other part outdoors.  We couldn’t have asked for better weather!  The Bouncy House was a hit, but the decorations were popular too!

Because I believe that sharing is caring, I’ll let you in on how we made the runway and the “Pin the Propeller on Dusty” game. 🙂

Runway Tablecloth:

We purchased a black plastic tablecloth. Dear Hubby took white electric tape to make the lines. We had white sticky letters and numbers to use for the runway directions.

That’s basically it. Very simple!

We also used paper airplanes that we bought from Party City to put on the runway.

“Pin the Propeller on Dusty” Game:

Dear Hubby took two pieces of 20×30 foam board. He used duct tape to tape the two boards together in the back.

One of our decoration packages came with a free Dusty and Friends picture. We took that to our local office store and got it blown up to fit the foam board. Two-sided tape was used to attach the picture to the foam board.

Dear Hubby used his art skills to make propellers out of construction paper. He used a small piece of two-sided tape that would be used to get the propellers to stick onto the board.

We had old bandanas around the house, so we used one of those as a blindfold for the kids.  I even decided to get in on the fun!  By the way, it’s not as easy as it looks…

Here’s the final product after all of the kids got their chance! As you can see, mine was the farthest off!

Shame, shame shame…

After the party was over, I laid down on the floor in total exhaustion mode, too tired to get up. Party planning takes a lot of work and coordination!

But you know what?

It was totally worth it!  Big Brother showed me “Mr. Smiley Face” all day long, even after the party was over.  It was a precious memory that I’m sure neither of us will ever forget.
