Autism Awareness Initiative Receives Award

December 11, 2017 Posted by Tonya Nash Faith 1 Comment

I am excited to announce that the Autism Awareness Month Faith Based Initiative won Honorable Mention at the Patients’ View Impact Awards!

This award recognizes a patient’s story and the potential it has for a positive impact on healthcare delivery. The award submission required an essay, a short video and links to any supporting information about your work. An excerpt from my submission is included on the Patients’ View Institute’s blog.

I started this initiative in 2016 to educate churches about how to compassionately serve persons with autism and their families.  Currently, we have served 23 churches and over 5500 persons have learned about autism as a result. I feel honored and blessed to be recognized, along with my son, for our autism awareness work in faith based communities!

My husband and I traveled to Arlington, VA for the awards ceremony on Thursday, December 7, 2017.  The ceremony took place in partnership with The Leapfrog Group’s Top Hospital Awards at the Hyatt Regency Crystal City. The National Board of Medical Examiners sponsored the award.

Here is a video of me accepting the award!

We had a great dinner afterwards, with many opportunities for networking with other healthcare professionals. My husband and I took a few pictures of this notable occasion. Check them out!

We had the pleasure of meeting some wonderful people at the ceremony. Many of them were honored at the awards ceremony because of the amazing things that they have done to bring awareness to a variety of health conditions. Our son, Daniel, wasn’t able to join us at the ceremony. Once we returned home, I showed him the award. He was so excited and proud because it also has his name on it!  It is because of him that this initiative began and I proudly share this honor with him!

This award is just the beginning of many wonderful things to come. I’m super excited about our upcoming 2018 autism awareness events! I have so many ideas and can’t wait to share them with you!
