The Heavy Burdens We Carry
My first physical therapy appointment went well. I had a very competent physical therapist that was able to come up with a plan that’s going to get me back to good as new in a couple of weeks.
I must admit that I was somewhat nervous when I first got to my appointment. I didn’t have a clear idea of what was going to happen. When I met with my physical therapist, he asked me to explain my problems to him in my own words.
I told him about having pain from my neck all the way down to my lower back. I told him about my two year old son that was very big for his age and how I sometimes have to help him get in and out of things. I talked about how it all flared up when my husband deployed because I had to do more physical labor than normal.
My physical therapist explained to me that sometimes, whenever we have a weak core (the trunk of your body), it can cause strain on your back. Weakness in the muscles around the spine can cause problems with spine support while lifting and carrying. He recommended that I be put on a “Trunk Stablization” plan. Pretty much, this means that I have to strengthen my core muscles so that they will be strong enough to stabilize my spine. I left with several printouts of exercises that I can do from home. I was encouraged because I fully trust that my Physical Therapist knows what he is doing and that his plan is going to guarantee success for me.
Sometimes in life, we carry burdens that we are too weak to handle. We hurt and strain ourselves in the midst of carrying the heavy load.
But isn’t it great that we don’t have to carry around burdens on our shoulders?
We can hand off our burdens to Jesus. His yoke and easy and His burden is light. How do you hand your burdens off to Jesus? By praying. Tell Him about what’s going on and how you feel about it. Then, give it over to Him. Tell Him that He’s in control and that you are trusting Him to work it out. After that, let it go. Trust in God. Just like my Physical Therapist, He knows what He is doing and following His plan for our lives always guarantees success.
