A Prayer Challenge

When was the last time you prayed…

  • That God would bless your spouse with a good day at work?
  • That God would protect your spouse from dangers seen and unseen?
  • That God would reveal His purpose and plan in your spouse’s life?

I used to be very inconsistent with praying for my husband before his deployment.  Whenever he would have a bad day, I would feel bad.  Not just because he had a bad day, but because I felt convicted because I hadn’t been praying for him.  I would think to myself that maybe if I had prayed for him, his day would have turned out better.

When my husband deployed, I made it a point to at least daily pray:

  • For his safety
  • That God would give him wisdom and insight on how to do his job with a spirit of excellence.
  • That he would be a light to those around him.
Now that dear hubby is back, I’ve been making it a point to consistently pray for him.  Our spouses don’t only need prayer when times are rough, but they need prayer when times are good too.

Here is a challenge for you (and me too):

  • Consistently pray for your spouse every day for at least a week and see how God decides to show up and answer prayer.
If you are up for the challenge, leave a comment and let me know.  Next friday, let me know what God did, not only for your husband, but for you too during this process.

***By the way, don’t feel left out if you aren’t married. You can take the challenge too!  Choose someone you know that is in need of prayer and pray along with us.
Prayer changes things!

    Prayer changes things!
I have recently changed my attitude onl prayer. We nartural prayer fervently when things start going wrong..(yet we know that prayer works)what about praying earnestly before we begin.
    Great Post

  • fallingintofavor March 26, 2010, 5:09 PM

I consistently pray for my husband! That's one thing I have down. The only time I don't want to pray is when I'm mad, and I'm praying that he'll leave me alone! I will join the challenge, lol.

  • JamericanSpice March 26, 2010, 4:18 PM

I do agree. I pray for my husband all the time. Even when we are at odds..it feels like a connection to pray for him and talk to God.

    I love this post.

    Nice to meet you.

I'm your new follower from Follow Friday.

    Enjoy your weekend.

@Robyn – Thanks for your prayers! I'm going to check your blog out too. Picture books are so fun! I just did a draft for one and I really enjoyed it.

  • Christian Mommy Writer March 26, 2010, 4:12 PM

@Amber – I'm looking forward to hearing what God did for you and your family!

@Ames – We all need a reminder every once in a while. Let me know how it goes for you!

@Heather – Prayer makes a difference. Thanks for stopping by! I'm going to check out your blog too.

@Shannon – I'm working on consistency too. I'm going to visit your blog too.

@Jessica – There are so many things you can pray for during your hubby's deployment. You have the right outlook. It's not just about being safe, but it's also about peace of mind and doing a good job.

@gamommy – Yeah, it's easy to forget about praying for dear hubby too. We get so caught up in other stuff. But they need our prayers too and we can make a difference!

@Kel – Happy Weekend to you too!

@Kathryn – That is a great book. I haven't read it in a while and could use a refresher. Every wife should have that book in their library.

@Tracie – You have the right idea. We all know of some area that our husband might be struggling in. Our prayers can help them break free in that area.

@Christy – Let me know how it goes for you! 🙂

Great prayer challenge. Thankfully God is with me daily to remind to say those prayers every time my husband leaves the house. I just stopped by to wish a happy weekend!

  • From Tracie March 26, 2010, 12:30 PM

I love this challenge! I do pray consistently for my husband, but I would like to challenge myself to pray more deeply for him…..to really think about other specific challenges he is dealing with and spending some time in prayer over those.

Here via Friday Follow and I look forward to reading more of your blog in the future! Have a great weekend! =)

  • Shannon March 26, 2010, 8:15 AM

I love the challenge! I need to be better about praying for my husband. I go through good and bad phases with it.
Hi from FF! 🙂 Yay for new friends!

  • Kathryn March 26, 2010, 11:01 AM

What a great post. This is something I need to make a habit out of as well.. It reminds me of the book
"Power of a Praying Wife" definitely good read! Thanks for sharing!

  • Lindsay Blogs March 26, 2010, 9:28 AM

You are absolutely right. God has made such a difference in my life since I started really talking to Him. Why would I leave my husband out of that? I'm up for the challenge!

  • Jessica March 26, 2010, 9:18 AM

I have been praying for my husband a lot lately with the deployment coming up and getting started. I will take the challenge! I need to remember to pray for other things for him other than his safety. Thank you for this post!

  • Heather @ Gerber Days March 26, 2010, 1:12 AM

Hello! Found you on Friday Follow! I too am a big believer in praying! Following your blog!

  • Ames March 26, 2010, 1:12 AM

Thanks for your post here and the challenge. I wish I could say that this is not a challenge for me but it is. I am in.

Your words here were both a conviction and a blessing to me. Thanks!

  • Amber March 26, 2010, 12:42 AM

A good idea! I pray each night for the health and safety of my family and at dinner each night the kids and I pray to keep daddy safe on his way home. But I don't know that I've prayed for him in other areas of life.
    I will do this challenge.
Thank You! I should be doing this every day anyway.

I'll let you know how things are next week.
