A Lovely Trip…

Hello Everyone!

I hope that all of you had a wonderful Thanksgiving Holiday.  My son and I went to spend some time with my in-laws.  Yeah, that’s right, I went to spend time with my husband’s family…without my husband.

Some of you are cringing right now at the thought, but I have been blessed to have great in-laws!

This wasn’t the first time that I had to go visit my in-laws by myself.  The first time was when I was about 4 months pregnant.  My husband was off to school in training during the Thanksgiving Holiday and I had to fly to visit my in-laws a day before my husband could come.

Now of course, I was a little nervous about it.  I had never been to visit them without my husband.  When my flight landed, I called my father-in-law to let him know I arrived and told him where I was waiting.  Imagine my surprise when I saw that not only my father-in-law came to pick me up, but the whole entire family came!  The Suburban was packed with family members!  That act of kindness removed all anxiety from that point on.

When I found out that my husband would be missing Thanksgiving this year due to the deployment, I decided to continue the tradition of spending time with his family.   This was significant, because I decided to drive and they don’t live around the corner.  It was a rather lengthy drive.  But it all worked out great!

It was fun hanging out with my mother-in-law and sister-in-law. My son was attached to his Grandpa’s hip the whole trip.  They reconnected instantly.  When he wasn’t with his Grandpa, he was following around his uncles. I ate good food, saw a movie, got some shopping in, and had a babysitter for 5 days in a row!

All that was missing was my husband.  He did get to call and speak to everyone a few times during the trip.  That was great.

Question:
Have you ever visited your in-laws without your spouse?  If so, how did it go?

So glad you got to go and have a great time. I've never done it before but now with our baby coming and my husband working lots I wouldn't be surprised if I end up flying all the way to California with my baby girl so they can see her. I also have a good relationship with my in-laws but I do see what you mean by the fact that there can be a little concern. So happy your son was able to bond with his grandpa…he'll never forget that!

I was able to visit my husband's family in May. I stayed with them for a week. It was odd not having my husband with me but nice to be with his family. My boys did have a lot of fun with their cousins. After I did that I went to my own parent's house which always is more comfortable for me. But I am glad I was able to see his family for a little bit.

Not sure if I would do it again or not. We have to see how things are in the future.

Glad you had a good time with them!

The most challenging thing I've found with in-laws is that they just seem to think different from me, and often my husband. It's hard to explain… 😉

But I'm glad things went well for you. It's nice to know that somewhere out there are wives who are not harassed by psychotic in-laws! LOL

Stopping by from SITS! Glad you had a good time with your in-laws. What a blessing to have such a great relationship.

I have never visited them alone but I have spent a few days with them at our house when my husband had to work and lets just say, it wasn't pretty. Here's to hoping for a better relationship soon!
