True Beauty

Yesterday, I wrote about my eyebrow threading experience. As I was writing that post, I wondered why we as women go through so much just to be beautiful.

Women are encouraged to:

  • Wax our eyebrows (or in my case, thread them) and shave.
  • Spend tons of money on hair care (perms, coloring, cuts, etc).
  • Wear lipstick and eye shadow.
  • Wear fake eyelashes.
  • Desire liposuctions, breast implants, and botox.

Think about it…

Why do we feel that we need to do this stuff?

Society puts so much pressure on us to look beautiful. We are flooded with images of paper-thin women on magazine covers, movies, and T.V. shows. It is force fed to us that super skinny is in. They even named a pair of jeans, “skinny jeans”.

The images that we see on magazines, movies, and tv are not real. Some are photoshopped images made to look real. It recently came out that Kelly Clarkson was photoshopped on the cover of Self Magazine to avoid showing her fluctuations in weight.

Movie stars wear tons of makeup. See them without it and they might not look as beautiful as you think they are.

We have to learn to love ourselves the way God made us. We were made in his image.

Now of course, we do want to be careful about our weight because being obese can cause serious health problems. However, everyone’s goal shouldn’t be to get down to 100 pounds.

Beauty is not just what is on the outside. What’s on the inside shines brighter. Like the old saying goes, “Beauty is only skin deep.”

I agree. People work hard at getting me to change. They don't understand that I am fine with me.

I do not want my hair relaxed.

I do not want to wear a gurtle…IT HURTS! And besides, my stomach did not just pop out in a few weeks, it happened over a course of the months that led to the birth of our child so therefore, I am certain that it will not just tighten back up in a matter of weeks and I am not going to force it back into place!

Oh, no, I'm sorry, can you tell this is a touchy subject for me?

Preach Mama! That's so good. It's ashamed that our young ladies feel all of this pressure to be anything other than themselves. Hope all is well with the Fam!

    Mommie Blessings 🙂
