It’s Better to Give than to Receive

One day, I was outside watering our grass. We hadn’t purchased a sprinkler yet, so I had to do it the old-fashioned way and use a water hose.

It was a very warm day and it seemed like the grass was sucking up the water quicker than it would come out of the water hose.

All of a sudden, I heard a little voice say, “Hello!”

I turned around and saw a friendly little boy who was walking down the street. He looked like he was about 8 years old. He slightly startled me because I was off in my own world.

“I’m going to my friend’s house,” he said.“I’m going to give him one of these!”The little boy held up two packs of handi-snacks.

“I don’t know if he likes these or not, but I’m going to share one with him.”

“That’s very nice of you,” I said. “I’m sure he will appreciate it.”

The little boy went on his way and I moved to the other side of the house. About 5 minutes later, the little boy came back.

With a very sad voice, the little boy said, “He wasn’t home.”

“Well, maybe you can go back and see him later,” I said to him.

“My mom will only let me go one time. I really wanted to share this handi-snack with him.” The boy hung his head down.

He’s so sweet, I thought to myself. “You should get your friend’s phone number and call him so you can be sure he is home before you visit him,” I said to the boy.

“Okay,” he replied. “See you later!”

This young boy really made an impression on me. He was really sweet and he desired to be a blessing to his friend.

How many times do we go out of our way to be a blessing to others? Our gift to others, no matter how small it seems to us, can make a person’s day.

Make it a point to do something nice for someone this week.

Luke 6:38 KJV –
Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.

Oh, I just noticed it said you were a military family! Sorry! What branch is your husband in? Mine is Air Force. I saw that you keep up with the christianmilitarywives.com blog, do you go on their message board or on their facebook group?

Aww I love when we can learn things from little kids! They are so precious!

Thanks by the way, I love the diamonds too! Yes, I am waiting for the day I will have to get up early because I have children! I think lists work good for me too, I just have to work on making them and sticking to them!

I am praying for him and his tests especially that he be motivated. I want to quiz him, he just never seems to want to do it…. Was your husband in the military or were these other tests?

    Thanks so much for commenting!
