Are You Afraid of the Dark?

My family and I spent several nights away from home visiting family during the Christmas holidays. This caused my son to have to sleep in several unfamiliar places.

When we stayed with my parents, my son slept in a strange crib without his beloved night light. As expected, he did not automatically fall asleep when I placed him in bed, even though he was very sleepy. At home, I can just put him down and he falls asleep rather quickly. This time, he kept looking up to make sure that I was there.

Once he saw that I was still with him, he laid his head back down and gave another try at falling asleep. He did this about five times until he was finally convinced that I was not going to leave him. Only then did he become comfortable enough to fall asleep.

We often do this in our relationship with God. At times, the paths that God takes us on are scary because we are not sure where it will lead. It is natural for us to need reassurance that He is there with us.

Sometimes, we choose our own paths that lead to darkness. In darkness, we can’t protect ourselves from obstacles that come our way. The bible says in Psalm 119:105 that God’s word is a light unto our feet and a lamp unto our paths.

Are you following the light? Or are you stumbling over things in the dark? Jesus is the light of the world and will never leave nor forsake you. Trust Him to guide you and be with you, even in the dark.

I love God for being there for me in my weakness. The first few years in my active walk with God, I was always scared that God would leave me. The next few years i was scared that I would leave Him. Now I finally see that he’s not going anywhere. It feels good to be able to worry about something else for a change.

You never know, one day I might not worry at all.
